RECORD

Deana's People-Focused Record Includes:

  • Responsible COVID-19 Action: Fought for CARES Act funding and secured grant funds totaling over $1 million to provide for utilities, rent, and mortgage assistance to help East Pointers get through the pandemic. Distributed over 6 million pounds of food for those in need, offered free testing and vaccinations, acquired PPE, and took quick action on shelter in place and mask mandate.

  • Invested in Jobs: City acquired over $500 million in economic development; secured $20,000 grant for Kauffman FastTrac entrepreneurship course for 20 East Point entrepreneurs; secured $132,400 grant from EPA for Workforce Development Job Training; Partnered with workforce development organizations, that have over a 90% placement rate, to provide job training in film and television, construction, logistics, and inventory control.

  • Safe Community Policing: Invested over $3 million in salary increases and incentives as well as equipment upgrades and smart technology, including computer-aided dispatch, body cameras, in-car laptops, tag readers, cameras, and gunshot detection system.

  • Updated Infrastructure: Fortified our community with $14.9 million in street repaving and sidewalk installations; $2 million in federal funds to fix our aging water infrastructure; coordinated with GDOT to install the High-Intensity Activated Crosswalks (HAWK); and working with developers who will build a $100+ million Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) in downtown East Point.

  • Maintained Smart Growth: Adopted trailblazing plans to address equitable growth and inclusion as well as the local food ecosystem. Enhanced green space with park repairs and renovations and new recreational amenities throughout the city, including the 3rd soccer field in the world's first transit soccer league, in the heart of our downtown.

Platform

I have an unyielding commitment to put people over profit, politics and party. Leadership is casting a bold vision and taking deliberate actions that provide for and empower people.  Over the next 4 years I will:

  • Continue to prioritize safety and a clean, vibrant city where all East Pointers can thrive

  • Champion adaptive reuse of vacant industrial property for town center and mixed-use development that enhances the quality of life of East Pointers

  • Ensure that “equity and inclusion” is more than a cliche so that as we continue to grow we leave no East Pointer behind

  • Ensure ongoing support for existing businesses and entrepreneurs while attracting socially responsible enterprises and developments that create local, good paying jobs

  • Improve services for seniors and residents with disabilities so they can age in place and live a healthier active lifestyle

  • Continue coalition building to expand opportunities, increase activities and extend learning in out-of-school time for our youth
